Reviews

We highly recommend staying at Marusca and Gianni's Tuscan apartment.

We were two families and stayed in this excellent place. We cannot say enough about our stay in Tuscany and about Marusca, Gianni, their beautiful daughters, and very gentle Gianni's parents, Graziella and Renato. Graziella made a delicious cake and we tasted a more than perfect and very tasty Vin Santo and Grappa produced by talented Renato.
The house is great, both for the quality of the apartment and the location! Castilion Fibocchi is a very small and quite place. This traditional Italian village is so charming. The apartment itself was spotlessly clean, fully equipped and very spacious. Marusca greeted us with her warm smile, a beautiful cantuccini cakes, jam, and a delicious bottle of wine from Renato's grapes. We also spent altogether a wonderful and unforgettable dinner at Gianni's parents’ house.
Marusca also provided us with additional information what else to visit and where to go for shopping.
We all miss this place and we would definitely stay here again.

Grazie mille Marusca and Gianni!
Thanks a lot - Merci beaucoup - Hvala na svemu !

We cannot say enough about Marusca, Gianni and our stay in Tuscany. The house is great! Marusca was so easy to deal with and incredibly helpful. Not only did she give us great feedback on our potential itinerary she actually met us in Arezzo and led us right to the house where we met Gianni. He then proceeded to help me get directions to an outstanding restaurant called Osteria Locanda il Canto del Maggio which is a little far and hard to find but amazing. Another great restaurant that was close by, but also a little hard to find was Ristorante La Luna nel Pozzo. It is in a town of 15 people. Just make sure to stay left when you approach a castle looking type building to get to the parking lot or you will drive around it and into an incredibly narrow alley which you will be lucky to get through without scraping your car. The house is clean, comfortable and just 20 minutes from Arezzo (which is definitely worth walking around) and not far from other great places. We had 5 people total including our 2 teenagers and my father-in-law. We went to Siena, Cortona, Pisa, Lucca, and Cinque Terre which might be the highlight of any trip (highly recommend driving right to Riomaggiore, parking there and taking train to other towns despite what you might read about difficult driving). We parked in Arezzo to take the train into Florence 2 days. While this was easy, I think in hindsight I might have researched parking lots that are easy to find in Florence and driven to save time and cost since the train was 78 euro ($100) each roundtrip for 5 people. Everyone discouraged driving into Florence, but my phone's GPS worked pretty well throughout so I think we could have avoided going into the no driving zone. If you are trying to decide where to stay, I promise you will not be disappointed by "Relax & Love in Tuscany"

Not going to lie, we were starting to expect medium to low quality out of the places we stayed with airbnb until we stayed here. This place was absolutely amazing. We shared the apartment with another couple and there was plenty of space. Marusca and her husband left us wine, cake, and plenty of fire wood to enjoy since we were there in the winter. Can't wait to go back someday!

We had an amazing time in Tuscany! Marusca and Gianni really went out of their way to welcome us into their home. We were greeted upon arrival with a yummy dessert and wine made by Gianni's parents. The place was spotless and everything in the flat was brand new. Arezzo, the nearby town, was very charming and the location of the flat wasn't too far from Siena, Montepulciano and Florence. It was wonderful to stay in a place where we could visit the town but also be far enough away to see the stars twinkle at night. A very relaxing and pleasant stay. We were honored to be hosted by such a lovely family!

I highly recommend staying at Marusca and Gianni's Tuscan apartment. I stayed here with my husband and our two children aged (almost) 3 and 4. It was an excellent place to stay, both for the quality of the apartment and the location. Castiglion Fibocchi is a very small, traditional Italian village. the shops are closed on Saturday afternoons and Sundays, and no English is spoken in the town. there are just a few simple shops, a butcher, a great bakery, a small supermarket, green grocer, and a hairdresser, but the off-the-beaten-track style of this place is part of its charm. You definitely need a car to get the most out of this area. The apartment itself was spotlessly clean, well equipped with kitchen utensils, hairdryer, and it was very spacious. Marusca greeted us with a beautiful cake, jam, and a delicious bottle of wine from grapes grown on the property. Like the other guests that have written here, we were warmly welcomed by their family, meeting both their parents and their beautiful children. The building is located at the back of the family vineyard, which added to the romance and beauty of the setting. thre a very few negatives that I can think of. I will mention that I found the mattress in the master bedroom quite hard, and someone with a bad back might have problems with it. Even my husband who likes a firm mattress commented that it was quite hard. And there is only one two seater couch n the living room, which is not much furniture for an apartment that sleeps six, though Marusca mentioned that they were going to buy an extra couch soon. it wasn't a huge problem for us as the kids went to bed early, but a bigger group of adults might find there is not enough furniture to get comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. The apartment is great for families, especially those with young children. it is quite child friendly, and the courtyard downstairs is fenced and gated, so it is easy for the kids to run around and play without running off anywhere. My favorite place was my seat by the kitchen window. In the evenings I would send the kids outside to play and sit at the window gazing at the Tuscan sunset while sipping on a glass of wine. aaah, I miss this place! I would definitely stay here again. Grazie Marusca and Gianni!

Our stay in Tuscany was wonderful. We were very well welcomed by Marusca and Gianni who are very thoughtful as well as the mother and father of Gianni who invited us for a supper in their gardens, a very beautiful evening in good company. Marusca and Gianni took time to describe us neighborhood and to recommad us to visit for our week in the region. The apartment is magnificent, very clean, quiet and very comfortable. It was provided with everything for our stay. We keep a magnificent memories of our stay in this beautiful region.

It was a great experience. I felt I had known Marusca and her family for years. It just didn't feel like the first time. They were so nice to us - their passion for their region, food , their wine, it was all so real and humble. They served us home made Tuscan food, which was really delicious. The house is also very clean and comfortable and great little towns close by.

Excellent location, villa and hosts!”

We loved our stay at Cappannelle! We were about 3 hours late arriving (due to various problems) but our hosts waited patiently for us without complaint. They made us very welcome and the villa was lovely. There was a bottle of their own Chianti red wne and home-made cake waitign for us on our arival too!

The location is off the beaten track and yet close to the town so its easy to walk into town for shopping or eating out at the local restaurants (we highly recommend Jair, about 15 mins wal from the villa). We stayed in the main part of the villa (there is a 'Love Nest' on the ground floor suitable for couples). The three bedrooms are very nice and there are two bathrooms (each with a shower, toilet, bidet and sink). The beds are firm (due to being new), worth bearing in mind if you are used to soft matteresses.

The kitchen comes with everything you need except a washing machine. There is a laundrette in town but we washed everything in a sink and dried it outside on the clother maiden provided. In the hot sun the clothes dried very quickly.

There is a TV (flat-screen) in the lounge but when we were there reception was patchy. Fortunately it improved in the evenings so maybe it was related to atmospherics; not sure. As we were there during the Olympics 2012 we liked to catch-up with what was happening in the Games, especially with Team GB!

The patio is large, with a 3-seater swing seat with shade and there is a dining table and chairs (wth separate brolly for some shade). there is low lighitng for the evenings too. Parking is plentiful in the garden area and there is a BBQ available. There isn't a swimming pool (sadly as far as my daughter and wife were concerned!) but the hosts have negotiated a small discount at a local hotel (€5 each plus small charge for loungers and sun shade). Its about 1/2 hour walk or 5 minutes by car from the villa.

Localy there are nice walks you can do, though its best to set out early before it get too hot (at least in July/August! There are lovely places to visit within a short distance (either by bus, bike or car) and we highly recommend Laterina, Arezzon and Cortona. Further afield there are Siena, Perugia, Florence, Sam Gimignao and Monteriggioni, though a car is a must for these.

The locals are very friendly and helpful too and even with the little Italian we knew it was fairly easy to get by. Some local speak a smattering of English too and are happy to try it out and help!

Finally, we can't praise the hosts enough. As well their warm welcome, as were were staying a week at least, they had us to a meal at Gianni's parents (who own the vineyard and live 500m away), where we met the family and enjoyed some real Italian home cooking and hospitality!

Also, due to a mix-up back in the UK, my drving license did not arrive before we left for Italy. This really messed up our car hire. To cut a long story short, Gianni helped enormously with the use of his pc at his office and also with faxing the UK etc. As a result I got my license in time to finish our holiday with the car we had hired. Thank you so much Gianni!

Dear Marusca + Gianni
Thank you so much for letting us stay at your apartment.
We had a wonderful time in Italy.

This apartment was perfect for us as an adult family of four. This was not a basic holiday let but more like a home. Occupying the whole upstairs area accessed by outside stone stairs, the 3 bedrooms and two toilet/shower rooms off the communal sitting room area and a good size kitchen/diner provided space both for privacy and family interaction. Despite a heat wave during our stay, the apartment stayed sufficiently cool with closed window shutters and traditional tiled floor. A large patio area with a swing seat and table and chairs with a parasol enabled outside eating if desired. The well-equipped kitchen, with an unadvertised dishwasher, was ideal for our self-catering. This was helped by a very kind initial provisioning by our hostess including a home-baked cake and two jars of home-made jam and marmalade. The local town has shopping facilities but there is a huge IperCoop just 15 minutes away in Arezzo which has everything should anything have been forgotten. The location was perfect for travel in all directions with most major sightseeing places being reached by car within 1 hour to 1 hour30 depending on whether you use toll roads or not. All of this would be perfect on its own. The extra element which really makes this holiday stand out is Marusca and her family. Very friendly and kind, we felt that we were visting family that we didn't know we had! Although they are not on site (so no issue with privacy or self-containment) we knew they were available if required. We spent a delightful and memorable evening with them and the family and two other guests for dinner in the open air. We intend to return in another season!

If you are looking for an authentic, idyllic Tuscan experience, you would be hard-pressed to find anything better than Marusca’s. Ideally located in a tranquil rural setting just a 15 minute drive from Arezzo, the villa is lovely, spacious, clean, and very homey. Just a few minutes’ walk through the countryside and visible from the country lane leading to Marusca’s is the small, picturesque hill town of Castiglion-Fibocchi where we also enjoyed the chance to get to know the friendly employees of Jair—a local family run pizzeria ristorante. Marusca and her family are fabulous people who warmly welcomed us to the area and very generously provided us a delicious home-cooked Tuscan meal and a personal tour of a local vineyard. Not only did this truly deepen our experience and understanding of the region, but also we feel that we have made some wonderful new friends. We found the location to be very convenient for travel to Florence (by train from Arezzo) and to many of our chosen Tuscan/Umbrian destinations by car (Siena, San Gimignano, Montepulciano, Assisi, Cortona). Our experience at Marusca’s was nothing short of magical, and we highly recommend that anyone contemplating a visit to this region take advantage of this Tuscan jewel.

[EN] It was a very pleasant trip visiting the Tuscany in June 2012. We enjoyed living in the appartment of www.cappannelle.it which provides one large flat for max. 6 persons and another flat for 2 people. Everything (like toaster, fridge, (hot) water) in that house worked fine and was in a very clean condition. There is no need to bring equipment like a hair dryer or towels. The terrace was build brandnew and is now equipped with sunshades an a hollywood swinger. The living room got a TV set (flat screen) but we didn't use as we stayed for holydays.
